Kenneth “Amos” Mitchell, 84, Eckerty

Amos MitchellKenneth “Amos” Mitchell, 84, of Eckerty, died Friday (November 29) in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born August 6, 1929, in Crawford County, to Freeman and Olean (Schnarr) Mitchell. In 1951 he married Ora Rae Gaither at Birdseye.

Amos was a school bus driver for over 30 years, worked at Gaither’s Grocery Store in Eckerty, and retired from Masterbrand Cabinet in Ferdinand. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid coon hunter.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ora Rae Mitchell; one sister, Victoria Mae Polen, Huntingburg, one sister-in-law, Susie (Mike) Oser, Huntingburg, one niece, Jessica (Adam) Mohr, Ferdinand; one nephew, Jessica (Adam) Mohr, Ferdinand, and four great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby Lee Mitchell, Lester Wayne Mitchell, and infant Clayton Ray Mitchell.

Funeral services  2 p.m. (EST) Sunday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial following in Eckerty Cemetery.
