Dorothy E. Messmer, 95, Jasper

Dorothy MessmerDorothy E. Messmer, 95, of Jasper, passed away Thursday (November 28) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born September 3, 1918, in Schnellville, tp Joseph and Matilda (Gunselman) Brosmer. She married Lawrence Messmer October 5, 1937. He preceded her in death February 15, 1970.

Dorothy was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella, the St. Joseph’s St. Ann’s Society, and the American Legion Post #147 and VFW Post #673 ladies auxiliaries. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards, and volunteering at local nursing homes.

Surviving are six daughters, Joyce Theising, Evansville, Patricia Broeker and husband Don, Huntingburg, Sharon Kluesner and husband Don, Jasper, Bonnie Budde and husband Dan, Norris City, Illinois, Mary Ellen Merkley and husband Edward, Jasper, and Constance Welp and husband Ron, Rosemount, Minnesota; four sons, William Messmer and Roberta, Richland, Washington, John Messmer and wife Betty, Jasper, Fred Messmer and wife Janna, Jasper, and Alan Messmer and wife Kathy, Celestine; one sister, Veronica Hochgesang, St. Anthony; one brother, Lawrence Brosmer and wife Pauline, Schnellville; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
6 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons who died in infancy, two sisters, Catherine Hartings and Anna Mae Brosmer, four brothers, Philip, Isadore, Cletus, and Edward Brosmer, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Ann’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
