Raider Fans Helping Young Paoli Player Battling Leukemia

HunterBy Scott Thompson/Father of Southridge Raider Cody Thompson

Ok RAIDER FANS tomorrow night is the big night! Let’s get behind our RAIDERS and show them “WE BELIEVE” by filling the stands at Paoli. The boys love the support and love it when it gets LOUD!

So with playing Paoli in this Regional game. There is something special that is going on behind the scenes. The Southridge Football Boosters have started taking up donations for a young man that is an 8th grade football player at Paoli. His name is Hunter Rohl. He is battling leukemia for a second time in his young 14 year old life. He is currently at Riley’s Hospital in Indy for the Month of November undergoing some intense chemo. Some of my facebook friends may already know that I had the pleasure of meeting this young man and his mother Molly. During the time I was at Indiana University Hospital with my Mom. I had told his Mom about my son Cody playing football for Southridge. I had also said but we don’t play you guys anymore so I’m sure you wouldn’t know of him…… Who knew a couple months later our RAIDERS would be making a trip to where this young man is from. What an inspiring young man he is at that! And I say MAN with meaning behind it. Because he has been through more hardship than most will ever see in a lifetime. And still SMILES and has a POSITIVE ATTITUDE and by being this way the term “HUNTER STRONG” came to be.

I had told Molly if there was ever anyway I could help them to let me know. I had said even with some sort of fund raiser to help with their expenses. Made it clear that I only new like three people from Paoli, but I knew a lot of other GREAT PEOPLE from this area that seem to always come through in helping folks at times they most need it! She never did ask as most people meeting a stranger wouldn’t.

So after talking with some players, other boosters, and coach B it was decided to show tribute to this young man with a helping hand for something bigger than the game. After all, that is the kind of guys we have on this team. Great, hard working guys that are willing to help those in need!! “THAT MY FRIENDS IS RAIDER FOOTBALL” and that is why this community is SO PROUD OF THESE GUYS!!!

We will be collecting donations at the game still yet and will most likely do so for the next week. Hunter is the nephew of Steve and Rhecia Brown of Ferdinand. They have been selling “Hunter Strong” tee shirts and braclets. So I will take what ever donations we get and give to the booster treasure. She can then write a check for the amount we have deposited from these dontations. Anyone wishing to write a check can do so by making it to his mother Molly Rohl.
