Herman J. Bleemel, 85, Evansville

Herman BleemelHerman J. Bleemel, 85, of Evansville, formerly of Dubois, died Wednesday (November 13) at his home. He was born in Ireland May 4, 1928, to August and Rosa (Merter) Bleemel. He married Betty Louise McDowell September 8, 1956. She preceded him in death June 27, 2009.

Herman was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the Indiana National Guard after serving 38 years in the military. He was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois and American Legion Post No.147 in Jasper.

He is survived by one daughter, Catherine Ann Lockridge and husband Tom, Evansville; five grandchildren, Amy Thomasson, Andrew Schultz, Thomas Bleemel, William Bleemel, and Beth Ann Bleemel; three step grandchildren, Heather Lockridge, Tommy Lockridge Jr., and Krista Wilhite; two great-grandsons; several step great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet Epple and husband Earl, Jasper; two brothers, Robert Bleemel and wife Sandy, French Lick, and Leroy Bleemel and wife Donna, Jasper.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Allen Bleemel and Bob Bleemel.

Funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday (November 18), in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois with burial following in the church cemetery. American Legion Post No.147 in Jasper will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.
