Ermilda F. Gehlhausen, 87, Jasper

Ermilda Ermilda F. Gehlhausen, 87, of Jasper, died Tuesday (November 12) at Northwood Good Samaritan Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born at Adyeville December 24, 1925, to Hilbert and Verena (Wilmes) Egler. She married Otto Gehlhausen July 28, 1948, at the St. Meinrad Archabbey. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1993.

Ermilda was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Holy Family Blessed Virgin Sodality. She was the assistant and head cook at Holy Family School from 1973-1991, and a member of the church quilting committee for many years. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Duncan and husband Larry, Indianapolis, and Janice Gehlhausen and husband Mark Schafer, Carmel; three sons, Mel Gehlhausen and wife Martha, St. Anthony, Randy Gehlhausen and wife Pam, Jasper, and Jerry Gehlhausen and wife Lisa, Jasper; 13 grandchildren, Lance, Cheryl, Ryan, Jan, Jill, April, Brooke, B.J., Bridget, Bradley, Brayden, Antonia, and Monica; nine great-grandchildren; and five brothers, Silvanus Egler and wife Darlene, Payson, Arizona, Harold Egler and wife Joyce, Loudon, Tennessee, Ambrose Egler, Holland, Michigan, Cyril Egler and wife Bonnie, Huntingburg, and Jim Egler and wife Doris, Jasper.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Sr. Virlee Egler, OSB.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper with burial following in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel and one hour before services at the church. A rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. Friday by the Blessed Virgin Sodality at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family, or to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
