Alma C. Knies, 93, Celestine

Anna KniesAlma C. Knies, 93, of Celestine, died Sunday (November 10) at her home. She was born in Celestine, May 9, 1920, to Leo and Mary (Theising) Wehr. She married Henry Knies June 10, 1941, in St. Anthony Catholic Church. He preceded her in death June 9, 1992.

Alma was a member of St. Celestine Catholic Church and the St. Celestine St. Ann’s Society. She loved to cook, play cards, and vegetable and flower gardening. She also loved spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are four daughters, Marilyn Hagedorn and husband John, Ferdinand, Kathleen Klem and husband U. Butch, Jasper, Rose Ann Hall and husband John, Dubois, and Therese Wessel and husband Fred, Celestine; one son, George Knies and wife Charlene, St. Anthony; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Eckert.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and William Knies, one sister, Veronica Mendel, and two brothers, Leroy and Roman Wehr.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Celestine Catholic Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday (November 13, 2013) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Celestine St. Ann’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Celestine Catholic Church, the Dubois County Leukemia Association, or to a favorite charity.
