Etta Marie Klem, 92, Ferdinand

Etta KlemEtta Marie Klem, 92, Ferdinand, died Monday (November 4) at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born in Celestine November 9, 1920, to Bernard and Catherine (Fischer) Gadlage. She married Hilbert Klem April 25, 1946, in Celestine. He died August 15, 1979.

Etta enjoyed altering clothes, crocheting and sewing. She provided company for the elderly. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish, where she taught religion, belonged to the St. Anne’s Sodality, and cleaned the church rectory.

Surviving are one son, Bernard “Butch” Klem and wife Doris, Ferdinand; four daughters, Becky Emmons and husband Rick and Marcy Knust and husband John, Ferdinand, Mary Hoffman, St. Anthony, and Phyllis Reynolds and husband Tom, Huntingburg; one sister, Alvina Schnell, Jasper; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Luann Klem, a son, Randy Klem, three brothers, Roman, Herman and infant Ralph Klem, and five sisters, Veronica Hoffman, Ella Fritz, Minnie Nordhoff, Gertrude Gehlhausen and Clara Schulz.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday and 7 -9:30 a.m. Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Condolences may be shared at
