Mary Leistner, 90, Jasper

Mary LeistnerMary Leistner, 90, of Jasper, died Thursday (September 26 in the Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born at St. Meinrad August 22, 1923, to Martin and Rose (Moeller) Otto. Her first marriage was to Richard G. Stillwell, her second marriage to Edgar Leistner.

Mary was a member of the Central Christian Church in Huntingburg and the Red Hat Society. She worked for General Electric for many years before becoming a custodian for South Spencer High School for 15 years. She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, sewing, quilting and playing with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Kunkel and husband Alan, Jasper; two grandchildren, her caregivers Nanette Parsons and husband Tom, Jasper, and Richard Kunkel, Jasper; one sister, Hilda Sterchi, Louisville; one step-son, Edgar Leistner, Jr., Grandview; one step-daughter, Deloris Malden, Zachary, Louisiana; and two great-grandchildren, Anastasia Disser and Kennedy Kunkel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Loretta Fleck, Clara Hodel, and Lorine Fendell, and three brothers, Hubert, Edward and Herbert Otto.

Funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. The Rev. Wade Allen will officiate. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dubois County Community Foundation , the American Cancer Society, or a favorite charity.
