Carolyn J. Thompson, 65, Huntingburg

Carolyn ThompsonCarolyn J. Thompson, 65, of Huntingburg, died Wednesday (September 18) at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born March 18, 1948, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to John Oliver and Mary Bernice (Woodward) Laney.  She married Carl E. “Sonny” Thompson January 29, 1971, at the Wesley Chapel Church in Harrison County, Indiana.

Carolyn was a retired secretary.  She was a member of the Huntingburg United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed reading, working in the yard, and time spent with her grandchildren, especially attending their sporting events.

She is survived by her husband,  Carl E. “Sonny” Thompson, Huntingburg; three sons, Donald Fitzgerald, Jr., Norton, Kansas, Jeff Thompson, Ocala, Florida, and Scott Thompson, Huntingburg; three brothers, William Laney, Owensboro, Bruce Laney, Livermore, Kentucky, and Andy Laney, Owensboro; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father and one brother, John Oliver Laney, Jr..

Funeral services at 2 p.m. (EDT) Sunday at Huntingburg United Methodist Church with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery. Rev. Paula Young Mayberry will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Saturday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
