Hazel M. Niehaus Cooper, 101, Huntingburg

Hazel Cooper editedHazel M. Niehaus Cooper, 101, of Huntingburg, died Saturday (September 14) at The Waters of Huntingburg. She was born February 16, 1912, in Huntingburg, to John W. and Emma (Ahrens) Niehaus. She married Earl W. Cooper of Dale, on August 22, 1937.  They made their homes in Evansville, Jeffersonville and Dale, Indiana, Pennsville, New Jersey, and Sandy Hook, Tennessee before retiring to Huntingburg in 1978.

Hazel was a homemaker and member of Central Christian Church in Huntingburg. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and working with the children in Bible school. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Jeffersonville and very active with Job’s Daughters. She liked sewing, crafts, activities with friends, and traveling with her husband; but family was her primary love.

She is survived by one daughter, Earleen and husband Marty Mennen, Columbus, Indiana; one son, Charles P. “Sonny” (Suzanne) Cooper, Huntingburg; one brother, Paul L. and wife Carol Niehaus, Charlestown; seven grandchildren, Steve Mennen, Columbus, Indiana, Ken (Kathy) Mennen, Longmont, Colorado, Kristen (David) McBride, Charlotte, North Carolina.  Kirk (Dana) Aldrich, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Ryan (Jill) Cooper, Kit (Arin) Cooper, and Kari (Mike) Kronin, all of Huntingburg; and 16 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl W. Cooper, who died February 27, 1986, and one daughter, Ruthann Aldrich.

Funeral services at 2 p.m. (EDT) Wednesday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial following in Dale Cemetery. Hazel’s granddaughter, Kristen McBride, and Pastor Paul Newland will officiate at the funeral. Friends may call from noon-2 p.m. Wednesday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Central Christian Church or Angels of Mercy Hospice.
