Lee Ray Jochem, 80, St. Henry

YogiLee Ray “Yogi” Jochem, 80, of St. Henry, died Thursday (September 12). He was born March 4, 1933, in St. Henry to Leo and Clara (Hohl) Jochem. He married Mary Alice Lindauer August 7, 1954, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.

Lee Ray was a graduate of Holland High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a mail carrier at the Ferdinand Post Office for 36 years, and Ferdinand Police Chief for 17 years. He was a member and past commander at Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, a member of St. Henry Parish and a member of Catholic Knights Of America.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Alice Jochem; three sons, Gerald Jochem and wife Sandra, Gallop, New Mexico, Alan Jochem and wife Angie , Trafalgar, Indiana, and Greg Jochem and wife Kim, St. Henry; two daughters, Diane Stipp and husband Bob, Bedford, and Judy Nino Jochem and husband Primitivo, Huntingburg; Nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one brother, Jerome Jochem, Jasper;  and two sisters, Dorothy Hollander and Rosie Stetter, both of Huntingburg.

In addition to his parents, he was was preceded in death by one son, Randy Jochem, one granddaughter, Abigail Nino, and one sister, Coletta Caine.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Henry Catholic Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites by Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Monday at Becher Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the St. Henry Cemetery fund.
