Laurena Zehr, 94, Jasper

Laurena ZehrLaurena Zehr, 94, of Jasper, died Sunday (September 8) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born April 4, 1919, in Dubois to John and Amelia (Schneider) Friedman. She married George O. Zehr September 26, 1937, at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois.He preceded her in death on February 11, 1988.

Laurena was retired from Kimball International, Jasper Corporation,where she had worked for many years. She was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic  Church in Dubois. She enjoyed quilting, refinishing antique trunks, crafts, and was a seamstress.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Jo Zehr, Hermitage, Tennessee; two sons, Jerry  Zehr, and spouse Dawn,French Lick, and Dan Zehr and spouse Joanna,  Eckerty; 11 grandchildren, 21  great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Martina Streicher, Jasper.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Larry Zehr, one grand-daughter, Kelli Rankins, two sisters, LaVerne Kluesner and Elvira Denu,  and four brothers, Cyril, Edwin, Cletus, and Raymond Friedman.

Funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois, with burial following in the church cemetery. Friends may call from  2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Raphael’s Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
