Russell R. Kendall, 86, Huntingburg

Russell KendallRussell R. Kendall, 86, of Huntingburg, died Friday (September 6) at his home. He was born June 11, 1927, in Huntingburg to John T. and Mary M. (Conner) Kendall. He married Doris Jane Birk January 27, 1948, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

Russell was a member of the Y.M.I. Club, V.F.W. Post #2366, and American Legion. He was a former Huntingburg City Council member and former Dubois County Council member. He was very active in his church, St. Mary’s, where he served in various capacities. Russell was a civic minded person and served in the United States Army during World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the great outdoors, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Jane Kendall, Huntingburg; two daughters, Patricia (David M.) Seger, Jasper, and Rebecca (Ken) Bowling, New Haven, Kentucky; two sons, Gregory A. Kendall, Jasper, and John F. (Beth) Kendall, Holland; son-in-law Robert Seifert, Jasper; two sisters, Lois Patton and Nancy Marie Schaeffer, both of Huntingburg; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Beth Seifert; four brothers, Theodore, Everett, Clarence and Yelverton Kendall; four sisters, Sarah Mayo, Ethel Hall, Frieda Kendall and Emma Logsdon; and one great grandchild.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. (EDT) Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial following in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A parish rosary and Y.M.I. memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Y.M.I.
