Gordon Russell Miller, 84, Huntingburg

Gordon Miller editedGordon Russell Miller, 84, of Huntingburg, died Friday (September 13). He was born January 29, 1929, in Huntingburg to Heber and Etta Marie (Doughty) Miller. He married Nona Wineinger June 7, 1953, at Central Christian Church in Huntingburg.

Gordon served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Kimball International’s Jasper Laminates Division and served on the Huntingburg City Council for two terms. He was a lifelong member of Central Christian Church, where he served as custodian and deacon for many years and was a member of V.F.W. Post #2366, where he served on the Memorial Detail. He was a talented carpenter, enjoyed his workshop, loved spending time with family and friends, telling stories, and helping anyone he could.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nona Miller, Huntingburg; three sons, Larry (Jolene) Miller, Lafayette, Mark (Carol) Miller and Gregg (Lorrie) Miller, both of Huntingburg; one daughter, Cheryl (Craig) Taylor, Huntingburg; one brother, James (Dixie) Miller, Richmond, Indiana; two sisters, Doris McAfee, Floyds Knobs, and Miriam “Bonnie” (Dennis) Thimling, Huntingburg; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Harris.

Funeral services at 1 p.m. (EDT) Tuesday at Central Christian Church in Huntingburg with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Military graveside rites will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail. Pastor Paul Newland will officiate at the funeral. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Nass and Son Funeral Home and from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday at Central Christian Church. prior to the funeral.
