Oscar F. Recker, Jr., 76, Jasper

Oscar F. Recker Jr.,76, of Jasper, died Tuesday (September 3) at his home. He was born in Jasper December 18, 1936, to Oscar and Ellanora (Vonderheide) Recker. He married Sylvia Merkley January 7, 1961, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville.

Oscar RekerOscar worked as a construction worker for Streicher Construction for 22 years, and served in the United States Army in Germany from 1956 to 1958. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper and the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and playing euchre. He was a St. Louis Cardinal and Dubois County Bomber fan.

Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Recker, Jasper; four sons, Charles “Chuck” Recker and fiancĂ© Cindy Laake, Stan Recker, Fred Recker and wife Lisa, and Rob Recker, all of Jasper; five grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew, Gigi, Elizabeth, and Emily Recker; four sisters, Viola Himsel, and husband Jim, Jasper, Rita Mae Purcell, North Highlands, California, Linda Lampert and husband Dennis, Jasper, and Susie Leinenbach and husband Pat, Huntingburg; one brother, Jay Recker and wife Mary, Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Fischer.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment following in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. St. Anthony American Legion Post #493 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel and one hour before services at the church.
