Abshire photoArlena M. Abshire, 89, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, formerly of Huntingburg, died Saturday (August 31) at her daughter’s home in Tulsa. She was born June 23, 1924, in Floral, Kentucky, to Ernest Edward and Mary Zelma (Lambert) Mickel.

Arlena worked at Holland Dairy for 30 years as a lab technician. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Huntingburg, where she participated in several church mission trips, and was a bible school teacher, a member of Birdseye Eastern Star #590, and a 4-H Club leader.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia (Fred) Hurst, Tulsa, and Cheryl McIntosh, Apple Valley, Minnesota; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Abshire, who died January 18, 1979, one brother, John Ernest Mickel, and one granddaughter, Rhonda Hill.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. (EDT) Saturday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Garrison Chapel Cemetery in Heilman, Indiana. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Nass and Son Funeral Home. Birdseye Eastern Star #590 will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 Friday evening, at the funeral home.
