Ernest A. Lange, 85, Ferdinand

Earnest LangeErnest A. Lange, 85, of Ferdinand, died Wednesday (August 28) at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. He was born in Ferdinand on August 25, 1928, to Herman and Ida (Begle) Lange.

Mr. Lange was retired from Indiana Desk Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 and St. Ferdinand Parish. He was an avid woodworker and gardener and loved growing flowers.

Surviving are his companion, Virlee Gunselman; two sisters, Lastie Carl, New Albany, and Bernita Metz and husband Linus, St. Anthony; and three brothers, Richard Lange and wife Aleene, Norman Lange and wife Sharon and Donald Hoppenjans and wife Ann, all of Ferdinand.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Alfred “Shorty” Lange, and a sister, Hermina Hoppenjans.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.
