Mary C. Prechtel, 84, Jasper

Mary PrechtelMary C. Prechtel, 84, of Jasper died Saturday (August 10) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was in born in Jasper on February 15, 1929, to Fred and Nellie (Gerber) Sermersheim. She married Sylvester G. Prechtel April 19, 1949. He died March 29, 1990.

Mary worked at General Electric, Twin Front Restaurant, J.J. Newberry variety store, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 673 in Jasper. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and VFW Post 673 Auxiliary, where she was active in the membership committee for years and the Christmas basket committee for the needy. She enjoyed making afghans and doing word-search puzzles.

She is survived by one son, John Prechtel, Jasper; one sister, Luella Bieker, St. Anthony; one stepsister, Clara Mae Schulte and husband Charlie, Jasper; one granddaughter; and three great-granddaughters.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillian Rucker, Lenore Anderson and Lee Etta Brames; two brothers, Leroy and Louis Sermersheim; one stepsister, Jenny Otto; and three stepbrothers, Gilbert, Urban and Ralph Schnell.

Funeral services at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Becher Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or a favorite charity.
