Norman H. Kilian, 86, Jasper

Norman KilianNorman H. Kilian, 86, of Jasper, died Sunday (July 21) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

He was born in Huntingburg November 30, 1926, to Jacob W. and Elsie (Holeman) Kilian. He married Rose Marie Bockelman June 30, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Norman was a Navy veteran and worked at the Jasper Post Office for over 29 years, from which he retired. He was a member of the Huntingburg High School Class of 1945, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, V.F.W. Post #673, American Legion Post #147, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid Indiana University basketball and sports fan.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Marie Kilian, Jasper; two daughters, Sarah Heichelbech, and her husband Don, Huntingburg, and Janet Roberson, New Albany; two sons, Steve Kilian, and his wife Judy, Oakland City, and Mike Kilian, and his wife Dawn, Jasper; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Kilian, one son, Gary Kilian, one sister, Catherine Fehribach, and four brothers, Bill, Leslie, Richard, and Russell Kilian.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.  VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites. Friends may call from  2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brenda Kilian Endowment Fund through the Dubois County Foundation, to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
