Joan H. Fuhs, 88, Huntingburg

 

Joan FuchsJoan H. Fuhs, 88, of Huntingburg, died Sunday (July 21) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born January 26, 1925, in Huntingburg to Felix and Cora (Yaeger) Sermersheim. She married Ralph “Fuzzy” Fuhs on February 18, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg.

Mrs. Fuhs retired from the First National Bank in Huntingburg where she worked as a bank teller and bookkeeper. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a charter member of the V.F.W. Post #2366 Ladies Auxiliary, and loved watching sports, especially the Southridge Raiders, St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana University basketball.

She is survived by one daughter, Susan Brown, Jasper; two sons, Charles and wife Cindy, Huntingburg, and David Fuhs, Huntingburg; and two grandsons, Brian Brown, Terre Haute, and Ross and wife Cassandra Fuhs, Ferdinand.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph “Fuzzy” Fuhs, who died September 27, 2008, an infant daughter, one son, Tom Fuhs, her son-in-law, Howard Brown, a grandson, Kevin Brown, three sisters, Bernardine Sermersheim, Mary Louise Uebelhor, and Claretta Prior, and five brothers, Leroy, Donald, Wilfred, Bernard and Bob Sermersheim.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. (EDT) Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingbur. A parish parish rosary will be prayed  at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. A V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
