Edgar F. Schlachter, 86, Jasper

Edgar SchlachterEdgar F. Schlachter, 86, of Jasper passed away Sunday (July 21) at his home.

He was born October 2, 1926, in Jasper to Albert and Adela (Denning) Schlachter. He married Anna Mae Knies October 18, 1947, in St. Celestine Catholic Church.

Edgar served in the Army during World War I and retired from Jasper Office Furniture Company in Jasper where he had worked for 37 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Holy  Name Society, St. Vincent DePaul Society, V.F.W. Post # 673, a 50 year member of the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and the Catholic Knights of America. His hobbies were woodworking and winemaking. He was a Jasper High School sports fan, and an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Mae Schlachter; one daughter, Diane Begle and her husband, Alan, Ferdinand; two sons, Mark  Schlachter, Jasper, and Gary Schlachter and his wife, Christine, Cary, North Carolina; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alberta Stevens, Columbus, Ohio, and Camilla Buschkoetter, Jasper.

He was preceded in death by one son, Steven Schlachter.

Funeral services at 10 Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.  V.F.W. Post # 673 will conduct military grave side rites. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Parish Endowment or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
