Robert Jenkins, 69, Birdseye

Bob Jenkins photo011Robert Jenkins,69, of Birdseye, died Monday (June 24) at his home.

He was born August 1, 1943, in Junction City, Kentucky, to James and Mary Oneita (McCowan) Jenkins. He married Carolyn M. Andry on November 17, 1962, at the Anderson Valley Christian Church.

He worked for the Norfolk Southern Railroad. After his retirement from the railroad, he was appointed Birdseye Town Marshall and served in that position for many years. He was an active member of the Bethlehem Masonic Lodge #574 F&AM and a member of the Birdseye Christian Church.

Surviving are one son, Lanny Jenkins, Birdseye; four sisters, Roberta (Glen) Toby, Marengo, Janis (Donald) Kasserman, North Carolina, Linda (Scott) Burkhart – Cedar Lake, Indiana, and Pamela Jenkins, Lake County, Indiana; one brother, Henry (wife Connie) Gabhart, Marengo; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn M. Jenkins, one daughter, Terri Rae Jenkins, three brothers, – Eddie Gabhart, John Gabhart, and James Jenkins Jr., and one sister, Karen Colwick.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. (EDT) Friday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Following the funeral services, he will be cremated and interred at Andry Cemetery near Birdseye. Rev. Albert Madden will officiate the services. Friends may call for visitation at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4-6 p.m. Friday, prior to the funeral.
