Rita Marie NiehausRita Marie Niehaus, 84, of Ferdinand died Tuesday (June 25) in Scenic Hills Care Center, Ferdinand.

She was born April 9, 1929, in St. Henry, to Leonard and Rosa (Sermersheim) Lindauer. She married Albert A. Niehaus on February 14, 1953, in St. Henry Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on October 24,1998.

Rita was a retired seamstress at St. Meinrad Archabbey. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish, its St. Anne’s Sodality, and the parish quilting group. She was also a member of Ferdinand D of I. Her hobbies were quilting, gardening and sewing.

Surviving are one daughter, Christine Ann Mahuron and her husband Joe of Salem; one son, Matthew John Niehaus and his wife Emily of Chattanooga, Tennessee; four grandchildren; three brothers, Willie and wife Dorothy Lindauer, and Norbert and wife Cecelia Lindauer all of St. Henry, Marty and his wife Mildred Lindauer of Ft. Branch. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, Edwin, Linus, and Father Prosper Lindauer.

Funeral services 10 AM Friday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7-9:30 p.m. Friday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand.
