Alfred D. Dreher, 90, Jasper

Alfred DreherAlfred D. Dreher, 90, of Jasper, died Thursday (June 20), in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born in Gary, Indiana, October 4, 1922, to George and Helene Dreher. He married Shirlene Magers June 16, 1958, at Valparaiso.

Alfred was a World War II Army Air Force veteran. He was a Hump pilot and  flew missions in India and China. He served  in the Air Force for 13 years. He was an Air Traffic Controller for 24 years at the Chicago Center. His hobbies were fishing, golfing, camping, boating, snowmobiling, hunting and hiking.
He was a life member of the V.F.W. and Hump Pilot Association and a member of the Jasper Gun Club.

Surviving are his wife, Shirlene; two daughters, Patricia Bree and wife Don, Aurora, Illinois, and Anna McCormich, Montgomery, Illinois; two sons, Thomas Dreher and wife Linda, Keystone Heights, Florida,and Douglas Dreher, Angelica, New York; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jayetta Moser.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with burial to follow in Shiloh Cemetery. The Rev. Jane Hillman will officiate. V.F.W. Post # 673 will conduct military grave side rites. Friends may call  from 11 a.m. Monday until the 1 p.m. service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper.
