Dorothy M. Lechner, 86, Jasper

DorothyDorothy M. Lechner, 86 of Jasper died Friday (June 7) at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.

She was born on April 9, 1927, in Louisville to John and Irma (Hassfurther) Woebkenberg. She married Edward Lechner on June 30, 1949, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1998.

She was a homemaker, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella, the St. Ann’s Society, the Victory Home Economics Club, and the Jasper VFW Post 673 Auxiliary. She enjoyed bingo and playing cards, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Sylvia Murphy, Jasper; three sons, Dan Lechner, Velpen, Tim Lechner and wife Karen, Jasper, and Brian Lechner, Haysville; three grandchildren, Kristy Schmitt, Ryan Schmitt, and Eric Lechner; two great-grand.children, Eli Himsel, and Harrison Himsel.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard Woebkenberg.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Daughters of Isabella and the St. Ann’s Society will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church of a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at
