Anna Rose Austin, 85, Birdseye

AnnaAnna Rose Austin, 85, Birdseye, died at 12:17 p.m. Thursday (May 2) at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

She was born in Dubois County on March 4, 1928, to Oscar J. and Isabelle (Merkley) Schnell. She married Guy N. Austin Jr. on November 6, 1951, in Monmouth, N.J.

Surviving are her husband, Guy N. Austin Jr.; four daughters, Debra Johnson and husband Rick of New Harmony, Sandy Hall and husband Jack of Sanford, N.C., and Belle Ann Hagedorn and husband Fred and Laura Mohr of Ferdinand; three sons, Mark Austin and wife Marcia and Matthew Austin and wife Tracy of Birdseye and Tom Austin and wife Cheryl of Ramsey; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Austin worked as a cook at Forest Park High School, Ferdinand. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Schnellville.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Burial will be in Birdseye Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at NassĀ and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church. A parish rosary and prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday.
