Rita Mae Krodel, 85, Jasper

Rita MaeRita Mae Krodel, 85, of Jasper, passed away Monday (April 29) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born on December 15, 1927, in Dubois to Frank and Emma (Engelhart) Beckman. She married Richard Krodel on June 21, 1952 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois. He preceded her in death on December 19, 2008.

Rita retired from Indiana Furniture Industries. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella, and the St. Ann’s Society. She enjoyed puzzles, knitting, playing cards, and spending time with family.

Surviving are two daughters, Patty Guinn, and her husband, Don, Huntingburg,  and Donna Gilbreath, and her husband, Stan, Jasper;  three sons, Don Krodel, Lancaster, South Carolina, Jerry Krodel, and his wife Chris, and  Glenn Krodel, and his wife Shelly Jasper; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Loretta Fischer, Sophia Bochart, Laverne Braun, and Mary Jane Nigg, and five brothers, Emil, Othmar, Henry, Edwin, and Odillo Beckman, and two brothers who died in infancy, Ralph and Victor Beckman.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Daughters of Isabella and the St. Ann’s Society will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
