Robert E. Humbert, 77, Jasper

HumbertRobert E. Humbert,  77, of Jasper, passed away at 10:23 p.m. Saturday (March 30,) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

He was born on June 25, 1935 in Celestine, Indiana to Leo and Clara (Kleinhelter) Humbert. He married Elaine Schmidt on May 16, 1957 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

He was a foreman for Jasper Lumber Company, from which he retired after 47 years.

Humbert was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Dubois High School Class of 1953, where he played basketball.  He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine; one daughter, Kristy Fuesler (Larry), Huntingburg; three sons, Gene Humbert (Donna), Jasper, Steve Humbert (Donna), Nashville, Tennessee, and Jason Humbert (Catherine) of  Jasper; six grandchildren, Nathan, Ashley, Grace, and Brayden Humbert, Cameron and Benjamin Fuesler; and one great-grandchild, Addison Humbert. Also surviving are one brother, Linus Humbert (Helen), Ireland, and three sisters,  his twin Betty Hassfurther, Dubois, Aileen Lueken (Ray), and Margie Marks (Ronnie), both of Celestine. Preceding him in death was one sister, Irene Lueken.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday (April 3) at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery mausoleum in Jasper. Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (April 2) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and one hour before services on Wednesday at Holy Family Church.
