Willie R. Pierce, 83, Birdseye

Willie Pierce          Willie Raymond Pierce, 83, Birdseye, died at 12:12 p.m. Friday (March 15) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

          Pierce was born in Burkesville, Kentucky, on February 2, 1930, to William and Myrtie (Branham) Pierce.
Surviving are his guardian and caregiver, Albertenia Kennedy, Birdseye; five daughters, Sherry Williamson, of Phyllis, Kentucky, Cindy Charles, Liza Burch, and Thelma Lou Thacker, Pikeville, Kentucky, and Delanna Sanders, Fort Mitchell, Kentucky; one son, Willie Raymond Pierce Jr.; three stepsons, Loren Daum of Birdseye, Raymond Daum of Jasper, and James Smith of Ferdinand; one stepdaughter, Cynthia McCellan, Ferdinand; one brother, Nathanael Paul, South Carolina; one sister, Lucille Gibso, Taswell; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Ray, Milbern, Fred, Harry, Ruel and Farris Pierce, and one sister, Mable Scott.
Willie served in the U.S. Army for five years and was a Korean War veteran.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Nass and Son Funeral Home, Huntingburg. Burial will be in Andry Cemetery in Birdseye. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2366 Memorial Detail. Rev. Albert Madden will officiate the services. Visitation will be after noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist with burial expenses.
