Leo H. Oeding, 87, Ferdinand

3b3989adc6d474d1c122bde66175     Leo H. Oeding, 87, Ferdinand, died Wednesday (March 14) at the Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

Oeding was born in St. Henry on July 12, 1925, to Paul and Anna (Moeller) Oeding. He married Dorothy A. Hassfurther in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand on August 19, 1947; she died August 3, 1995.

     Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Hudson, and her husband, George, Oakland City, and Jane Van Winkle, and her husband, Mike, Ferdinand; four sons, Kenneth Oeding, and his wife, Phyllis, Bob “Ponce” Oeding and his wife, Carolyn, and Terry Oeding and his wife, Sheila, all of Ferdinand, and Dan Oeding, and his wife, Doris, St. Anthony; two sisters, Marie Gessner, Ferdinand, and Helen Hopf, Huntingburg; one brother, Edgar Oeding, Jasper; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Gregory, Ben, Roman, Ralph and Linus Oeding; two sisters, Cecelia and Rose Kerstiens; and one grandchild.
     Mr. Oeding worked at Jasper Chair Company for 24 years and tended turkeys at Bartley Farms. He retired from Möbel Corporation in Ferdinand. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, Ferdinand Senior Citizens and the St. Anthony Conservation Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, butchering hogs, making turtle soup and gardening. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
     The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
