Othmar Jahn, 93, Jasper


Othmar R. Jahn, 93, Jasper, died at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Brookside Village Senior Living Community in Jasper.

He was born in Jasper on Nov. 9, 1919, to Peter and Catherine (Weidenbenner) Jahn. He married Agnes Beckman on Oct. 26, 1950, in St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine. She died Dec. 9, 2004.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan Birk, and her husband, Jim, and Diana Sergesketter, and her husband, Gary, Jasper; three sons, Tony Jahn, and his wife, Kathy, Roman Jahn, and his wife, Chris, and David “Butch” Jahn, and his wife, Shannon, Jasper; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Herman Jahn; two sisters, Rose Vonderheide and Anna Bahlman; and six brothers, Joe, Leo and Albert Jahn and three infants.

Mr. Jahn was a lifelong farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Philippines during World War II. He was on the Northeast Dubois School Board for 20 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper and its Holy Name and Legacy societies, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 673, American Legion Post 147 and the Jasper Knights of Columbus.
He was a Simon Bruté Medal recipient for Holy Family Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing cards, especially sheephead, throwing horseshoes, playing bingo at Brookside and watching baseball.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Holy Family Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper. VFW Post 673 will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel, Jasper.
