Harold Bartelt, 90, Huntingburg

Harold Carl Bartelt, 90, Huntingburg, died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Pike County on Sept. 30, 1922, to Amos E. and Minnie (Nass) Bartelt. He married Doris Virginia Taylor on Dec. 30, 1945, in St. Paul United Church of Christ in Holland.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Virginia Bartelt; two sons, Michael Bartelt, and his wife, Sandra, Jasper, and Randall Bartelt, and his wife, Rita, Huntingburg; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Bartelt, and a sister, Helen Hagemeyer.

Mr. Bartelt was a retired farmer, milk hauler and woodworker. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2366 in Huntingburg and the Holland American Legion, where he was a former commander. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in Rhineland, Germany, during the Battle of the Bulge.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Paul United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Holland American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Cemetery Fund.
